In One Take Andrew Hamilton Literally Sets Fire and Rain to DVSN’s Title Track 'A Muse'

TrePalm director executes a fiery music video in a single take

In One Take Andrew Hamilton Literally Sets Fire and Rain to DVSN’s Title Track 'A Muse'

TrePalm director Andrew Hamilton, who has previously directed videos for Toronto artists Aiwake and superstar Drake, offers another visual treat for OVO-signed R&B duo dvsn, for the title track from their acclaimed album 'A Muse In Her Feelings'. Having a timely release on Valentine’s Day, the video for 'A Muse' was shot on a chilly evening where an empty industrial space turns into a romantic milieu. On creating the video’s setting, Andrew’s writes that the aim was 'to nudge our storytelling from fulfilled fantasy to a place just past reality - a visual cloud nine'. Setting the romantic fever dream with practical effects and visual alchemy, Hamilton, with the help of production designer Nicole Simmons, takes an ordinary warehouse and infuses it with tenderness. All done in a single take, Hamilton’s latest cinematic effort follows dvsn’s Daniel Daley leading his lover, played by the talented Kreesha Turner, past a stretch of golden furnishings to a piano surrounded by candles where she flirtatiously dances while Daniel serenades her.

Without any stitching or visual effects, the video skips no beats and gradually builds the passion between the two lovers by means of fire and the rain arriving in time to melt off any inhibitions they have left. Andrew’s decision to turn it into a one-take music video was based on how he interpreted the song. Andrew writes: “[In the song] they’re lost in each other in something that doesn’t even feel real, and we’re there with them,” adding that a cut 'releases tension' and does not carry the same effect as what is captured in a single take.

DVSN’s 'A Muse In Her Feelings' is their latest release and is one of a handful of Canadian albums nominated for the coveted Polaris Music Prize. Andrew Hamilton comes up on the heels of a number of successful campaigns for President's Choice, Airbnb, and Scotiabank, in addition to being one of Canada's up-and-coming film directors. He is eager to collaborate again with Drake’s record label OVO Sound in the near future. Have a look at the video below. To view Andrew’s previous work, click here
