The Design Museum Appoints Gravity Road
Independent creative content agency, Gravity Road, has been handed the brief to re-launch the new Design Museum, following a pitch against other agencies.
Founded in 1989, The Design Museum is embarking on an ambitious move to the former Commonwealth Institute building on Kensington High Street in 2016. The relocation will give the museum three times more space, much improved learning facilities and a dedicated gallery for the free display of its permanent collection. The move will provide the museum with the opportunity to widen its appeal and double its visitors to 500,000 a year.
The Design Museum began the process of finding an agency for its launch campaign in late summer. The pitch panel included Deyan Sudjic, Design Museum Director and the original founder of the museum Sir Terence Conran, alongside Trustees Sir John Hegarty, Julian Vogel and Luqman Arnold, Chair of Trustees.
The appointment is the start of a longer term relationship with Gravity Road to support the museum’s advertising and marketing campaigns.
Sir John Hegarty, Trustee of the Design Museum said: “With a Limited budget we were looking for an idea that launched our new space, establishing the museum globally as the worlds definitive Design Museum. Gravity Road presented an idea that did just that. The museum is really exciting to be working with them on developing their thinking.”
Mark Eaves, Founder of Gravity Road said: “This isn’t just a great new win for Gravity Road, but a matter of professional pride and passion. We are thrilled to be embarking on the journey to 2016 with Deyan and the team.”
Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum, added: “We were charmed by Gravity Road, they understood what we are trying to do, and they made it clear that this wasn't going to be just another job for them.”
