Great Guns Announces Two New Directors

Great Guns reinforces its global roster with 2 new director signings; Ellis Bahl & Hanul Lee.

Ellis Bahl’s hilariously camp and carefree promo for VH1’s Dating Naked was shortlisted in the Next Directors Award at D&AD in 2014 and bought him directly to the attention of Great Guns Founder, and D&AD jury member, Laura Gregory.

An Upstate New York native, Ellis studied at Boston’s Emerson College. His love of improvised comedy and music eventually brought him to NYC where he studied with the Upright Citizens Brigade and formed the folk rock band Stamp Collectors.

His indie folk rock connections led to him directing music videos on the side, eventually landing him a full time job at MTV where he directed and edited in-house music videos for their online startup, MTV IGGY. There he worked with global indie acts such as Junip, Ladytron, Santigold, JYJ, La Vida Boheme, Blood Red Shoes, and many more. Some of the artists subsequently approached him to direct their official videos and in 2012 he directed the UKMVA winning breakout video for Alt-J’s “Breezeblocks”.

He has worked with severak brands and agencies such as VH1, UGG, Repreve, M&C Saatchi LA, Collide and Mistress Creative as well as top music acts such as Charlie Winston, Banks, Big Sean, Capital Cities and Walk off the Earth, among others.

Hanul Lee began is career as an Art Director, before making the move into directing in 2001.

Drawing his inspiration from fashion designers, Rembrandt and other artistic masters, Hanul would describe his style as having “a naturalistic aesthetic appeal that transcends the realms of time and is somewhat reminiscent of a fine artist’s work”

His stunning work has afforded him a career that has allowed him “to explore new techniques and ideas whilst working with, and learning from, the best talent in the industry”.

Hanul has worked globally with corporate giants such as Samsung, VW, Canon, Hyundai, LG and Olympus and many of the world’s biggest agencies including Cheil Worldwide, TBWA, HSAD, JWT, Innocean Worldwide, SKM&C, Welcomm, Ogilvy & Mather, Phoenix Communications, McCan- Erickson Worldwide and BBDO KOREA.

He has won several awards including, silver and bronze at the NY Festival and silver at the Korean Advertising Awards.
