Brain Food: 6 Pieces of Creativity to Ease Yourself into the Weekend
It’s the end of the week, and that means booze, boogying and Brain Food. This week’s creative selection features a clever, reverberating logo from Sonos, two intriguing (and extremely gross-sounding Easter eggs), a polar bear taking a stroll around London, branded content from Snapchat and a Bob’s Burgers inspired cookbook. We also mark 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz with a powerful film from BBC News.
Keep scrolling up and down and keep looking at the new Sonos logo below. Pretty rad, eh? Bruce Mau Design in Toronto created it to look like it was emitting sound waves, but apparently only noticed during its creation that it formed an optical illusion when scrolled up and down.
2. Marmite & Pot Noodle
Marmite announced that it’s launching an Easter egg this year flavoured with the stuff. But in the furore of this yeasty debate, another even more grotesquely outrageous - in my eyes, anyway - flavoured chocolate egg was announced: The Pot Noodle Egg. It won’t contain any noodles but will apparently taste of the dried snack. Which essentially means it will taste of, well, nothing. Yours for five of your hard-earned English pounds!
3. Bob’s Burgers Cookbook
I love Bob’s Burgers. I love burgers. And I love cooking. So I was very happy to hear that the show is set to release an official cookbook. For those of you that don’t know, the animated TV show’s humour is based around a small family-run burger joint. A constant part of that humour are the daily specials it runs, like the ‘Bruschetta-bout-it Burger’, ‘Baby You Can Chive My Car’ and the ‘Beet-er Late Than Never’. Honda engineer Cole Bowden couldn’t help but wonder what they all taste like, so two years ago he launched The Bob’s Burger Experiment, a blog in which he attempts to create the show’s specials. Bowden has teamed up with Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, and a cookbook is set to be born. No date announced yet, sadly.
4. Polar Bear in London
Commuters in London were woken from their early morning lull this week as a polar bear greeted them at Charing Cross station. No one was harmed, though, as the eerily realistic animal was in fact a PR stunt for ‘Fortitude’, Sky Atlantic’s much-hyped new drama. The 8ft long bear trekked from Charing Cross to the Millennium Bridge and even all the way to Hampstead Heath. It took 19 specialists eight weeks to design and two puppeteers spent five days rehearsing to ensure they had its movements spot-on before hitting London’s streets.

5. Snapchat Discover
“Snapchat Discover is a new way to explore Stories from different editorial teams,” reads an announcement on Snapchat’s website. The messaging app has teamed with the likes of National Geographic, Vice, Yahoo! and the Daily Mail to bring users storytelling format that puts narrative at its forefront. The brand also noted: “This is not social media. Social media companies tell us what to read based on what’s most recent or most popular. We see it differently. We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what’s important.”
6. Drone’s View of Auschwitz
This week marked 70 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. BBC News released this powerful film that shows the site as it stands today.
